My Story

I am a 36-year-old mother to my five-year-old son Santiago, and my 2 year old daughter Valentina.  I have pretty much always been invested in my own fitness & nutrition.  I played soccer competitively for years, went to the gym 6 days a week for as long as I can remember, and always ate relatively healthy.  After I had my son a lot of that changed.  I was frustrated and depressed about the way my body looked and felt.  I desperately tried to get back in shape and shed those unwanted pregnancy pounds!  Going to the gym for hours everyday with an infant at home was not realistic, nor was a gym membership in my new maternity leave budget.  My nutrition was the worst it had ever been because I was depressed and stopped paying attention to what , when, and how much I was eating.  I basically lived on coffee and muffins from Timmy's.  I spend the first year of my son’s life batteling some pretty bad postpartum depression, spinning my wheels every day trying to get control of my life again with zero success.  A few months after my son’s first birthday, I gave into all the random 21 Day Fix commercials I had seen on late night TV and I figured, what the heck I’ll give it a shot!

I went on Facebook to a local buy and sell group and posted looking for the 21 Day Fix DVD’s.  Someone quickly responded telling me I should talk to a Beachbody Coach and they could help me out.  I’ll be very honest, I was not interested in having a coach or joining an accountability group.  I was embarrassed that I had let my body and my mind get to the state it was in, and I most certainly did not want to discuss that with anyone, let a long a group of people I didn’t know.  I was promised by my Beachbody Coach that I could participate as much or as little as I liked, so I reluctantly agreed to joining her online accountability group.

I started the 21 day Fix exactly 3 weeks before my husbands huge annual Birthday BBQ.  I was determined to wear this clingy sun dress that had been in my closet for 2 years.  The first week of my program was a shock, the workouts were intense, but more so I learned how out of control my portions of food were every day!  As I mentioned before, I always ate relatively healthy in the past, BUT I had no idea that I was actually overeating every single day (by a lot)!  This realization finally brought me to post in my accountability group.  I don’t really know why I changed my mind, but I guess after a week of seeing other women (a lot of other mothers) posting about their struggles and success, I felt like I wanted to as well!   I posted about the fact that I had been going way over my portions of food for years, and got a lot of encouraging feedback from women just like me!  New moms!  Who even though they didn’t know me, understood me!  At that moment, I decided I was going to give it everything that I had and make a change.  I was going to love myself again, so I could be the best mother to my son!  I spoke with my husband and explained to him how important this program was to me and that I needed to feel better about myself. I was only about 10 lbs overweight, but it was even more about making the inside feel better at that point.  He of course agreed to support me however he could.  After the ONLY 3 weeks, I was hooked. I could see that my body was changing and I was feeling better already.  Oh and I did wear the dress ;-)
